NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc has invited applications for admission to online courses and certification in Programming, Data structures & Algorithms.
Free Online Course conducted by IITs in India with partnership with Google & Nasscom.
The courses are called Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The courses are a part of the joint initiative by IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IISc, called NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning). Courses are open to everyone. The courses in programming, data structures and algorithms are aimed at undergraduate college students (any engineering or science stream) in their 2nd year or above.
The programme was launched by Human Resource Development (HRD) minister MM Pallam Raju. The objective behind this initiative is to provide IT industry-ready and job-ready courses to students.
About the course
This is a course on programming, data structures and algorithms. The learner is assumed to have no prior experience of programming, but is expected to be at the level of a second year undergraduate college student in science or engineering. The course will run over ten weeks with about 2-3 hours of lectures per week.
At the end of each week, the learner is expected to write some programs and submit them for grading. These programming problems are classified as easy, moderate or difficult. The easy problems, typically, are repeats from the lecture. The moderate and difficult ones will require increasing levels of initiative from the learner.
In addition, at the end of each week the learner is expected to answer a set of objective-type assessment questions.

Online Exam:
The certification exam will be conducted in the following 10 cities this time (May 31, June 1, 7, 8):
North: Lucknow (there is some chance that Delhi will be added)
East: Kolkata, Guwahati
West: Mumbai, Thane, Ahmedabad
South: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram
